Managing clear skin can become a little tricky when the seasons begin changing. The biggest struggle I deal with is going from oily skin in the Summer to dry skin in the Fall.
Something that I first realized is, some of the products that I was using in the Summer, just don’t work in the Fall.
Though my routine is simple & strategic, it’s a must that we remember that some things will work for others, but may have no effect on us. This routine may show better results for those with acne prone skin that isn’t sensitive and skin that is oily to combination.
Step 1: Cleanse with AMBI Complexion Cleansing Bar $2. This is a gentle cleansing bar with a light scent (I’m usually opposed to scented face products, but I’m looking for ways to remove my old acne scars). Even though it suds up, it’s still very moisturizing, and my skin doesn’t feel tight after using it.
Step 2: Reset with a face mask. I only do this if I have time + I wore makeup the night before. My current favorites are Fresh Rose Face Mask $62, Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Mask $10, & Feeling Beautiful Avocado & Oatmeal Face Mask $5. Each has a different result so do a little research to make sure the mask you choose is right for you.
Step 3: Tone aka making sure I washday face well lol. I’ve been using witch hazel as a toner since about 2012. I initially started doing it because it was something I saw everyone else doing, but it eventually turned into a habit. One day I looked into why we should (or shouldn’t) use toners and I came across a very direct answer. Why do we tone? Because once upon a time face washes weren’t pH balanced products, toner was used to balance the pH levels in our skin. Do we need it? No. Though there are now products that offer more, like my old favorite Neutrogena Rapid Clear 2-in-1 Fight & Fade Toner $8.
Do I think I could stop using it? Yes. Will I? No, because like I said I like to be sure that I got all my makeup off, and I feel like that wet blank cotton round is something I NEED to see LOL. If you’re looking for a much cheaper alternative, try this Witch Hazel Antiseptic from Target for $3.
Step 4: Moisturize. In the fall this is one of the most important steps, especially if your skin is like mine and becomes unusually dry around this time of year. My all time favorite moisturizer is by Pond’s. Their Dry Skin Cream $7 is literally my holy grail product, I use it year-round but really cake it on during the winter.
Remember: Exfoliation = Radiance.
Start exfoliating a few days a week and you’re guaranteed to see glowing results!
